Streamlining Your Storage Unit

After I moved everything into a small storage unit down the street, I realized that I needed to think of ways to organize and simplify the space. I started looking through the things that I had, getting rid of items that I didn't need anymore, and working hard to clean up my belongings. It was a lot of work, but I was able to completely overhaul my storage experience by learning to simplify. How to Properly Store Makeup

by Frank Bennett

Makeup is an item that a lot of people use every single day, but large makeup collections can take up a whole lot of space. If you want to save some space in your bathroom or bedroom, you may want to consider putting your makeup collection into a self-storage unit. However, before putting your makeup into storage, you should prepare your makeup adequately to ensure that it does not become unusable by the time you take it out of storage again.

Sort the Good from the Bad

Before you put your makeup collection into storage, you should go through your collection and examine all of the expiry dates. Anything that has expired, or will expire before you are able to take it out storage, should be thrown or given away, as it will only take up space and you won't be able to use it in the future.

Clean the Containers

While it may not be intuitive, it's a good idea to clean off the exterior of all of your makeup containers with warm water and a soft cloth to remove any organic debris and grease which could cause damage to your makeup over time.

Pack the Makeup Properly

In order to properly prepare your makeup collection for storage, you should pack it carefully. Firstly, take delicate and fragile items, like glass perfume bottles, and wrap them in bubble wrap before placing them in a box. This helps prevent them from breaking in the unlikely event that something falls on them.

For creams and liquid or semi-liquid compounds, it's a good idea to store them in individual plastic bags to prevent them from leaking and contaminating other parts of your makeup collection.

Understand Some Storage Techniques

Be sure to store all of your makeup above the ground, as this can help protect them from flooding and moisture damage. Further, you should store makeup out of direct sunlight, which can cause powders to dry up and crumble. Avoid heat sources, which can cause makeup to deteriorate over time, as well as moisture sources, which can cause mold to begin to grow in your makeup. In order to best protect your makeup collection that is in self-storage, you should look into the added expense of a climate controlled self-storage unit, which allows you to maintain moderate levels of both temperature and humidity within the unit no matter what the weather conditions outside are.
